6082 aluminum alloy was micro arc oxidized in an alkaline solution into aluminate based electrolyte. In the micro arc oxidation process, positive and negative voltage level, and processing time were altered. As structural characterization techniques, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), coating thickness and surface roughness measurements were employed. In order to characterize the MAOed (micro arc oxidized) samples mechanically, hardness measurement and reciprocating wear test in dry sliding condition at room temperature were performed. Experimental results of both structural and mechanical tests were comparatively evaluated.
