The paper emphasizes on the review of digital image processing and presents a novel method of implementation the concepts of image enhancement techniques with Verilog Hardware Description Language (HDL). It also provides an insight to some of the basic image processing techniques such as brightness control, contrast stretching, negative transformation, thresholding, image false colouring. The paper presents the hardware implementation of image enhancement techniques using Verilog hardware description language and the synthesis with field programmable gate array (FPGA). These algorithms were simulated and implemented in Verilog HDL using ISE Design Suite from Xilinx. An application was designed in C Sharp to convert the initial image from standard format (bitmap or jpeg) in RGB 8-bit vectors, for each pixel of the input image, and also to compare the initial image with the resulting quality improved image.
