Interdisciplinary practice thrives on the flexibility of academic disciplines because it involves the crossing of boundaries. Literature, as a phenomenon that mirrors all facets of existence, and as an academic discipline, promotes interdisciplinary interests. Most students of literature do not realize this potential of literature, hence the need to incorporate interdisciplinarity into the literature curriculum. This paper analyzes the inherent nature of literature that enhances the versatility by which it incorporates interdisciplinary cooperation. Using the analytical method in examining the result of an interdisciplinary class experiment, literature was identified as, contrary to being exclusive, an inclusive discipline which requires the application of the knowledge and methods derived from other disciplines for its appreciation. It also instigates discussion on other disciplines by its heuristic and didactic elements.
