This research intends to invite to a reflection on the reasons for the gap that exists between the social sciences, particularly sociology and economics. This gap has opposed both disciplines and has limited their explanatory power. A relational and reflexive thinking is proposed to understand that gap and to bridge it. It is argued that the choice between different epistemological perspectives in social sciences has been closely related to certain political positions because both, the epistemological and the political are different aspects of a single worldview attached to the social and historical situation of the scientists. Relational and reflexive thinking permits not only to discover that but also to control the influence of such an extraneous factors. Thus, we could bridge the gap between sociology and economics and even contribute to the betterment of society.
