The present paper deals with a cognitive approach to literary texts and may serve as an example of an overall conceptual analysis of a literary work. The article is focused on the concept “smile” as one of the main concepts in J. Fowles’ philosophical-psychological novel “The Magus”. The conceptual analysis of the novel is conducted via conceptual metaphor and conceptual metonymy. The linguistic means actualizing the concept provide rich information about the author’s fiction world picture which in some way is also his general world perception.
