ABSTRACT
There is a number of reasons lying behind the undertaking of this research paper, among which is that
African-American writers are influential and have a great effect on readers. Indeed, no one could deny
the pathetic dimension in texts like Native Son, Sula, A Raisin in the Sun, and Invisible Man. It should,
however, be noted that writers of critical surveys have given some remarks about some historical events
that exist in the works of minority groups. Yet, they have not given a detailed description or an
extensive study of the historiographical dimension in these types of texts. To approach my purpose, I
will demonstrate that the ‘black’ text is grounded in the African American experience. African
Americans have tried to reread and reinterpret black history in the light of some new emerging theories,
such as post colonialism and post modernism, feminism and the issue of gender and race.
