In our social life, marriage is the most esteemed and enduring of all interpersonal relations. Though the majority of married couples enjoy matrimonial life for years, particularly young couples, and marriage is hypothesized as a single problem solving relationship. But despite of the fact, the uprising divorce rate has become an alarming dilemma of the modern society as the separation in relations is painful and can lead to severe risk of health hazard among divorced female partners in particular. The present study focused on two major objectives, first the influence of spousal communication on marital stability through a research-design instrument based on interpersonal attractive theory. Secondly, it examined the perceived causes of divorce in terms of long-term marriages, relative marital satisfaction, demographic, marital and health questions. The reliability of the instrument was determined through Alpha Cronbatch and it was administered to randomly select married adults of Islamabad, capital city of Pakistan. The t-test, and ANOVA were applied to analyze the influence of spousal communication patterns, personal appearance, proximity, similarity and complementarity. Findings supported the theory of attraction and that lack of effective interpersonal communication is the nuisance to marital stability. It was also evident that the marital stability differs among spouses on the basis of gender and length of their marriage life. Finally, spousal communication which meets these conditions is effective, and as such can influence the development of participants of the process of interaction. These results suggest that healthy communication environment serves as a perceptual filter through which both husband and wife evaluate their behavior and enjoy a cheerful life.
