Colour has always been an integral part of architecture. It has been used differently in different spaces. There are several environmental and psychological factors that are misleading or influential in the use of colour in design. Light is one of them. Regarding the use of colour in architecture, the interaction of light and colour often gives the designer inspiration. There are certain principles and assumptions concerning the use of acknowledged colours in design. Stained glass is created by joining coloured pieces of glass. It expresses the structure and the art within and has historically been an indispensible aspect in many buildings. This study will initially address the use of colour in architecture in the course of history. It will then go on to analyse stained glass that is generally used in window openings in architecture based on the principles of colour and light before. In the final part examples of architectural buildings that extensively feature stained glass will be provided.
