We perceive things the way we conceive of them, and this is fashioned through and grounded in experience and culture. Being the collective programming of the mind culture is analysed based on Hofstede's five dimensions: 1) Power- Power Distance (PD); 2) Self- Individualism versus Collectivizm (ID or IDV); 3) Gender- Masculinity versus Femininity (MAS); 4) Predictability- Uncertainty Avoidance (UA or UAI); 5)Time - Long versus Short-term Orientation (LTO). The cultural diversity is conditioned by what extent of above-mentioned dimensions a certain culture possesses or lacks. This entails diversity in perception and comprehension of the world in different cultures, particularly the perception and the implication of a metaphor in different constitutes of art and thus, leads to understanding the whole idea of a work of art. Employing Lakoff and Johnson's theory of metaphor, the paper attempts to show how the widely known metaphor ``LIFE IS A JOURNY'' is embedded in different cultures and in different constitutes of the arts.
Also, the paper aims at finding the means that will enable us to simplify the process of tracking down the invisible metaphors.
The three different sources have been analyzed: a story - ``The Chrysanthemums'' by John Steinbeck, a film - ``Repentance'' directed by Tengiz Abuladze and a painting - ``The lovers'' by Vincent Willem van Gogh.
