The study highlights feminism in Jordan. It discusses the feminist movement in the Arab world in general. It is shown that the feminist movement in the Arab world is clearly affected by cultural, ideological and political factors. The Jordanian feminist movement and the Arab feminist movement share some particular intellectual discourse that is affected by Arab thought and political movements. The future of feminism in Jordan is raised as the main question to be tackled when dealing with feminist discourse in the Arab world. The study sheds the light on the Arab feminist movements and other feminist waves affecting the Jordanian feminist discourse.
The study showed how women in Jordan as well as in the Arab world are facing lots of challenges due to both political circumstances facing the Arab world and cultural factors that formulated the anti-feminist discourse. The study concluded discussed the effect of democracy and liberalism on the development of feminist discourse in the Arab world and Jordan as such. The study also discussed the impact of religious interpretation and cultural dilemma on shaping the masculine discourse in the Arab world. The study concluded in stressing the need for creating and implementing a feminist cultural strategy to face the anti-feminist scenario manifested in the Arab world in general. The study recommends certain development strategies and techniques to face anti-feminism and reconsider women’s role in the Arab world and Jordan in particular.
