Since inception, the theory of fuzzy set has evolved in many directions and is finding applications in a wide variety of fields. In this paper, basic concepts of fuzzy logic theory are discussed and illustrations are included related to the selection of a best house to buy given constraints such as space, age, price, having at least with least three bedrooms and two baths. We examine the difference between the characteristic function of a crisp set and its counterpart the fuzzy set. The last example regards choosing a job having highest salary, given the constraints of closeness and good benefits.
