The aim of the present research is to investigate sex offences in the context of situational opportunities: the presence of a convenient victim, the absence of guardians, and the motivation and ability of the offender. In the framework of the research data were gathered from 105 law court files in Israel that dealt with various types of sex offences. In addition, 11 sex offenders from two prisons in Israel were interviewed. A content analysis of the interviews together with quantitative processing of the data allowed a description to be prepared of the injurious situation while distinguishing between the different types of sex offenders (circumstantial offenders, exploiters and aggressors). The contribution of the present research lies in the enhancement of existing understanding in the field of sex offences, and in its application in the field of environmental criminology and situational crime prevention.
