This project seeks to develop a service learning project for MBA Advanced Project Management course using a case writing approach. The advanced project management course implemented in this project is a major course in the curriculum of the MBA — MIS (Management Information Systems) concentration in the College of Business in Purdue University Calumet. The Course objectives focus on [a] introducing students to the rationale and methods for initiating, planning, executing, monitoring/controlling, and closing tasks within project management, and [b] applying concepts, techniques and methods in the context of an actual project. The purpose of this project is to use a case writing approach for service-learning and to incorporate that into the advanced project management course. A case writing approach is designed to facilitate hands-on student learning of both the technical and the interpersonal aspects of project management. Its purpose is to combine student engagement with real customers and real stakeholders in the creation of real events with real outcomes. The case writing service learning project will partner with the Methodist Hospitals Foundations. Methodist Hospitals Foundations is a non-profit organization and was founded in 2009 to support the Methodists Hospitals in Gary, Indiana. Service learning component brings opportunities and benefits to all the partners involved in the success of this effort: the university and its faculty; the students; and the community partners.
