The article deals with different symbols expressed in different fables. A fable is a short allegoric story which has animals, birds, humans and various natural phenomena as characters and it mainly ends with a moral. One of the main functions of fables is didactics. Symbolic expressions represent main parts of fables. Animals are represented with humans’ features. Different symbols acquire different characteristics in various cultures. If a snake can be a kind creature in Georgian culture, Aesop considers it as an evil creature. If a donkey is foolish for Aesop and for Greek culture, Sulkhan-Saba sometimes considers it as a sly and clever creature. One of the dominant characters for all the cultures is a cat. If a cat is a creature, that never changes its nature for Aesop, Sulkhan-Saba considers it as a wise and prudent creature. But we cannot refuse that Aesopian cat can also be prudent and wise. For Dodsley a cat is greedy, but for Thurber a cat is self-confident and selfish creature.
