According to the recent data from the Ministry of Education Thailand, 700 higher education programmes by 34 local Thai public and private universities are fully taught in English to more than 30,000 Thai students. This internationalization of higher education is becoming more and more an essential part of the education itself as Thailand is moving towards more cooperation beyond traditional boundaries in the globalized world. In particular, Thailand is preparing for The ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 and the Ministry of Education has encouraged the year of 2012 as English speaking year. The ASEAN single market and the single production base taking place under the ASEAN community will definitely influence the Ministry of Education in Thailand to put more effort for Thai students to communicate in English in preparation for the year 2015. This paper is a result of a survey study to all the private and public universities in Thailand which offer the degree relevant to English language teaching (ESL/EIL) in particular at the master’s degree level. This more or less will show how Thai higher institutes are gearing up to cope with this highly competitive phenomenon in terms of English language education .As a result of the survey, four categories have been grouped : those that offer English as TESOL or Applied Linguistics, those that offer English as Communication , those that offer English as EIL, and the last category as others for the programmes which do not fall under the three groups (such as English for International Management). Discussions on each category will be made with the highlights on EIL programmes.
