The effectiveness of the Communicative Multimedia Creation (CMC) approach in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) has been explored in a Thai classroom context. For the last two years, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Thailand, has endorsed the CMC approach as a component of an English course for its undergraduate students. The CMC approach can involve a variety of projects that require learners led use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), for example, creating a short communicative multimedia presentation. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, this study analyzes the performance of students in the CMC project and discusses their perception towards the CMC approach. It was found that the CMC approach was more effective than other conventional language teaching practices for Thai students. The students developed confidence in using English through the use of the CMC approach. This paper thus gives an insight on the current status of English language education in Thailand, and the essence of the CMC approach on practical and theoretical grounds.
