ABSTRACT
This paper is aimed at manifesting the illustrations of children in Charles Dickens’s novels, Oliver Twist, David Copperfield and Bleak House. The famous illustrators of the time, George Cruikshank created the illustrations for Oliver Twist, and Halbot Knight Browne called Phiz, created the illustrations of David Copperfield and Bleak House. The portrayal of children in the illustrations of the novels will be dealt with considering to their symbolic and literal meanings and regarding the relationship between Charles Dickens and his illustrators, Cruikshank and Browne.
