Many tertiary students in Malaysia find it difficult to apply the five English verb forms; the imperative, present, past, present participle and past participle forms, correctly in their sentences. This is actually surprising considering that they have spent eleven years learning English formally at school. Since English is considered as the second language to many Malaysians, its usage is often influenced by the first language or mother tongue of the user. This study aims to analyze the errors committed by a class of civil engineering diploma students of MARA Technology University of Malaysia when assigned to apply the five English verb forms in their sentences. Upon identification of the errors, some information about the causes of the committed errors was elicited from the subjects via a questionnaire. This hopefully will be deemed informative in the future teaching and learning of English.
