In–service teachers strive to integrate critical thinking, problem–based learning, creativity, and rigor into their instructional techniques. With technology transforming the lives of humans globally, literacy instruction must respond to changes in society by infusing the literacy based nature of technology into instruction. Current instructional practices are still bound to the traditional print activities. While some teachers lack awareness of the changing nature of literacy instruction, others are still bound in traditional pedagogy. While there is no clear definition of what exactly constitutes technology, integration using technology to provide literacy instruction is a foundation for the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). This research project examined a Common Core Community where university professors, public school teachers, and local education agencies worked together to improve 21st century literacy instruction at the middle school level through the utilization of technology, creativity, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
