The rapid development of the internet has brought with it some challenges, more specifically usage of social networking in learning. This study is concerned with investigating the usage of social networking among students as a learning tool, how such usage impacts on their learning habits, skills and values. It thus undertook a survey among secondary/middle school learners in Nigeria using questionnaires to collect data and chi-square static to analyse the data obtained. The findings indicate that there is a general agreement that engagement with social networking can have a positive influence on students’ learning, improve their performance and generally help to enhance learning. However there is also the strong indication that the same social networking engagement can become a source of distraction and reduce study time if not used carefully and controlled. It should then be necessary to find means of redirecting the usage of social networking by learners in a more controlled and positive way in other to harness the positive benefits to be derived from these usage. Learners also need to be oriented properly and motivated positively on how they can make use of social networking to improve and enhance their own learning habits, values and skills while teachers should engage learners in learning activities that will involve profitable usage of social networking to enhance learning.
