The study examines fathers' awareness of their influence their children's emotional intelligence development. It also investigates how fathers' child-rearing roles impact on their relationship with the children. It further examined the influence of these roles in the development of the children's emotional intelligence. A descriptive survey was employed as research design. All parents in Ile-Ife, Nigeria consists the study population. Multi-stage sampling technique was employed to select 450 fathers having primary school aged children. The sample was also literate fathers possessive of Ordinary Level educational background in the minimum and gainfully employed. The instrument for the study was a self-developed, 50 items Likert-scaled questionnaire - 'Emotional Intelligence Development in Children (EIDIC)'. The instrument was content validated and pilot tested for internal consistency and found reliable with Cronbach alpha value of 0.87. Data collected were analysed using percentages and oneway analysis of variance. Results indicated that awareness level of fathers' in Ile-Ife of emotional intelligence is low. It revealed also that father's fail in demonstrating positive EI model as the majority of respondents were not active in child rearing activities that could directly connect them with their children. Furthermore, the study showed that there is a strong connection between father's roles in child rearing and emotional intelligence development of the children. The study concludes that fatherhood involves provision for material needs and importantly emotional model for children, enhancement and reinforcement of positive deeds toward the amelioration of increasing school violence.
