This descriptive study aimed at examining factors related to students’ readiness for practicing in the clinic. Possible variables included accumulated GPA, students’ attitude and willingness in practice, aspect involving instructors, and also clinical environment. Association between study outcomes and the accumulated GPA, the students’ attitude, and the students’ readiness were also investigated. The subjects comprised 135 second-year nursing students, Borommarajonnani college of Nursing, Ratchaburi. A tool for collecting data was divided into 2 sections. The first was a questionnaire studying the students’ readiness which was tested for content validity and reliability at 0.84 - 0.94. The other was the form for evaluating the study outcomes. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistic (to present percentage, mean, and standard deviation), Pearson, s Product moment Correlation, and Chi-Square.
It was found that.
1. In the whole picture, the students’ readiness for clinical practicing was in the medium level at 69.6%
2. The students’ accumulated GPA, the instructor aspect, and clinical the environment was statistically associated with the students’ readiness (p< .05). There was no association between the students’ attitude and the readiness.
3. Statistic correlation was found between the students’ GPA and the study outcomes (p<0.01), while there was no relationship between the readiness and the study outcomes.
This study result suggested that before practice in the clinic, instructors should be aware and find ways to empower students and to prepare them to be ready for nursing practice.
