This research aimed to determine a model for development of historical tourism in northeastern Thailand for Thai tourists to increase the potential in supporting and managing quality historical tourism during peak seasons through community participations. In–depth interviews were used to collect data from samples consisting of 12 community leaders and 62 community residents from two popular tourist destinations: Phrathat Panom in Nakhon Panom and Phrathat Cherngchum in Sakon Nakhon provinces. Data were analyzed by qualitative analysis. Results of the study showed that the development of historical tourism should be focused more on improving the quality of tourist attractions, landscaping, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation, security system, pricing and quality control, setting up a tourist information center, and public relations. In addition, more facilities should be made available to impress tourists and make community residents earn more income on a sustainable basis, including parking space and traffic system, especially during high seasons. Lastly, OTOP products should also be put on sale during peak seasons to generate more income for the local people.
