Steganography in general is defined as “the art and science of hiding information by embedding it in some other data”. On social context, hiding a message in the title and context of a shared video or image and/or misspelling names or words that are popular in the media in a given week, to suggest an alternate meaning. In this paper, we criticize the available 12 steganography methodologies, create a taxonomy and make a comparative analysis based on their capacity, transparency, security and algorithmic complexity. It has been reported that “while the integrity of hidden messages is preserved on some sites e.g., Google+, other sites e.g., Facebook and Flickr, perform various processing functions on uploaded images and hence the extraction of secret messages from downloaded images fails”. Therefore, in study, we also focus on shared images and the countermeasures for the disruption or detection of steganographic content.
