Nowadays, the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are crucial to the global economy. In 2012, the SMEs in Thailand were the main mechanism for strengthening the economic progress of the country by creating income and employment. The total numbers of SMEs in 2011 was approximately 2,652,854 entrepreneurs or 99.76% of all enterprises. In the pursuit of success, the SMEs entrepreneurs should manage all aspects thoroughly. Preliminarily, the framework called “The genius triangle for success in life” was applied as the targeting methods and tools for success in each phase of life. It is compatible with the beautiful and strong equilateral triangles that are equal in all sides. The unequal sides affect the different shapes of the triangles of each SMEs. Some triangles may have high, low or inclining tops. These unbalances affect the success of the SMEs habitually. Anyway, such framework is still short of the testing for scientific reliability and feasibility by the research methods and procedures as well as the random of samples in the study. Therefore, it was interested to analyze the causal relationship between the factors and the shapes of the genius triangle that affect the success of SMEs in Thailand. The study was designed as Quantitative research from November 2012 to February 2013. The 444 samples were simple random sampling from SMEs entrepreneurs in Bangkok Metropolitan Area. The structural equation model was developed by LISREL program. It was found that most of the respondents are 213 business owners (48.00%), 271 organizations have maximum 50 staffs (61.00%), 216 organizations work as business partnership (48.60%) and 223 organizations are in service sector (50.20%). The factors of the genius triangle affecting the overall success of SMEs are at the highest level with the average of 4.25 (S.D. = 0.52). The shapes of genius triangle affecting the overall success of SMEs at medium level with the average of 3.40 (S.D. = 0.59). The analysis result of the adjusted causal model are that the model is consistent with the empirical data, considering from the statistics used to examine the consistency of the model and the empirical data which include Chi-square ( ) of 40.96, Degree of freedom (df) is 21 at the probability (p) of .01, which means that the result from the test of Chi-square is not statistically different at .01. The Root Mean Square Error Approximation (RMSEA) is 0.046 which is less than 0.05. It is also consistent with the result that the Goodness of Fit Index (GFI) is 0.98, the Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index (AGFI) is 0.95, closed to 1. The Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR) is 0.022, closed to 0. Therefore, the hypothesis is accepted that the model is consistent with the empirical data.
