Meaning giving beliefs seem to influence cognitions, emotions and behaviour of individuals and groups. The paper applies an evolutionary approach to explain the formation of these beliefs and reviews their changes, transformations and functions throughout the history. Further it briefly discusses the challenges and risks of the existing belief systems in 21 century and brings arguements for the benefits of the naturalistic oriented modern sciences as a resource for meaning giving ideas. Based on some selectedscientific data and experiments the paper suggests that scientific education and changes in environment can decrease the ingroup-outgroup aggression and discrimination and at the same time enhance the feelings of similarities, belongingness, global identity and reminder of fairness and compassionate behavior.
