Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is an Asian Diaspora Women author settled in the United States of America. She grew up listening stories from revered Indian epics the Ramayan & the Mahabharat just as most of Indian women, resulting in inheriting uniqueness in the character. In this tech –savvy age Indian women willingly follow the culture of India as well they are modernised. Chitra B. Divakaruni’s in her recent Novel “Oleander Girl” beautifully reflects the virtues of Indian women by the protagonist Karobi. Karobi has traditional values of the Indian culture yet she is successful in her quest for identity in the world. The underlying objective of this paper is to focus the ideals Karobi stands for, how she fights her battle in life and emerges out of odds as most of Indian women. The gradual development of her personality according to the norms of Indian society will considered along with the globalised world. Karobi is successful in giving the message to the world to be modernised instead of being westernised yet cling to the roots of culture which will be attempted through this paper.
